FAQ

Hypnotherapy FAQs:

Will I still be in control of myself?

Yes, be assured that you will be fully in control of yourself when you are hypnotised. You are still conscious, but your conscious mind is extremely relaxed.  No one can take control of you and make you do stupid things while you’re hypnotised unless you allow it.

Am I surrendering my free will if I get hypnotised?

Absolutely not. When you are in a hypnotic state you are more aware and more focused on yourself then you are in a normal state. You are not giving up your free will or allowing anyone to turn you into a “zombie”  or a chicken. Despite what you’ve seen in films, hypnosis doesn’t make you the slave of the person hypnotising you. The person hypnotising you also can’t make you fall in love or out of love with someone else, make you change any essential part of who you are, or do anything that you don’t want to do. You are in full possession of all your faculties throughout the hypnosis session and you are not under a “spell” or in any way under the direction of someone else. The things that you’ve seen on the telly or in stage shows where people get “hypnotised” and run around acting like chickens or saying silly words on command is not the type of hypnosis you will undergo. You will never do anything while you are hypnotised that you wouldn’t do under normal circumstances.

Can I be hypnotised without my consent?

One of the most common frequently asked questions about hypnosis is “can I be hypnotised without my consent?”. It is an area of concern for a lot of people that don’t know a lot about hypnosis. But don’t worry, no one can hypnotise you without your consent. Hypnosis isn’t magic, it’s just a state of very deep relaxation. If you don’t want to be hypnotised then you won’t be able to relax and you won’t enter a hypnotic state. The process of entering a hypnotic state takes some time because it will take time for your body and mind to reach the deep relaxation that is necessary for hypnosis. You can stop the hypnosis session at any time during that process if you’re uncomfortable or if you don’t want to be hypnotised. You’ve probably seen hypnosis done in films or on TV where the person doing the hypnotising snaps their fingers and the other person immediately falls into a trance and is incapable of doing anything but what they are told. That’s not how hypnotherapy works.

What happens if I can’t come out of hypnosis?

It’s physically impossible for that to happen, because you are not unconscious at any point during the hypnosis. You will be in a deeply relaxed state but fully conscious and you can come out of that state at any time that you want to. You can also come out of that state when given a verbal cue we agree upon. Sometimes when you get the verbal cue to come out of your hypnosis you may not want to because the relaxed state you are in feels so good.  When that happens it may take you a few minutes to return to your normal awareness but that is only because you want to stay in the relaxed state, not because you are being forced to stay in it or because you can’t come out of it on your own. You are always in control, even when you are deep in a hypnotic state.

How many problems can I cure at once using hypnosis?

Hypnosis isn’t a magic cure that will get rid of all of your problems at once. You will need to address your problems one at a time, and possibly over the course of several treatments, in order to see results. It’s possible that symptoms of one disorder that mimic symptoms of another disorder might go away with the symptoms of the other disorder but in general you will need to tackle one problem at a time when you’re using hypnosis as a treatment.

Do I need to see a hypnotherapist more than once?

Another frequently asked question about hypnosis is “how many sessions will I need?” You most likely will need more than one session with a hypnotherapist to solve your problem, depending on what it is. That benign said, some issues can be resolved after just one session. Whatever the issue, most people see noticeable results after just one session so you might not need extensive hypnosis or months of treatment in order to eliminate your problem, but with some issues it will almost always take more than one session for you to see any kind of noticeable results.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is perfectly safe. You are always in control of the situation and you are never unconscious. Unlike medication, hypnosis has no possible side effects and in most people hypnosis always works unlike medication, which may work or may not work depending on your body’s chemistry and what the disorder is. Hypnosis can safely treat the physical and mental aspects of common problems like addictions safely and can help you break your physical and emotional dependence on overeating, smoking, drinking, drama, anger, or any other destructive addition that you might have.

What will happen in a hypnotherapy session?

The initial conversation will include:

A discussion about your requirements and goals.

Gathering personal information such as sleeping patterns, lifestyle information, medical symptoms or medication, any treatments involving other healthcare providers.

An explanation of how the hypnotherapy process will work.

Practical details such as cost, cancellation policy, how many sessions might be needed.

After this, your hypnotherapy can begin and will include the following:

A welcome chat where you can ask any other questions you have and get comfortable.

Then I will lead you into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation. Once deeply relaxed, we can then begin 'change work' using techniques and approaches discussed and agreed to help you towards your goals.

Once the 'change work' is complete, I will begin the transition to wakefulness, in which you are gradually brought out of your trance. After that we have time for any questions you may have, a summary of the session and progress made so far.

Does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnosis has the capacity to work for most people but some are more susceptible to suggestion than others. Being fully committed to the process and feeling that you can trust me is key. It's also important to keep an open mind, as any scepticism may subconsciously dampen your susceptibility.

Can I have hypnotherapy online?

Yes, you can. I now offer virtual sessions via video call. This can open up an opportunity for us to work together wherever you live and eliminate travel time while allowing you to feel more comfortable.

How many sessions will I need?

The duration of therapy will really be dependent on your circumstances and the reason for which you are seeking hypnosis. If you are seeking hypnosis for a one-off service such as smoking cessation, for example, this can be done in a single session of up to two hours.

Other issues, however, may require a longer-term approach with regular weekly sessions. I will let you know how many sessions you might need when you start therapy and will be flexible when it comes to decreasing or extending the number of sessions according to your progress and needs.

How long will hypnotherapy sessions last?

Again this is really dependent on your circumstances. One-off services such as smoking cessation or gastric band hypnotherapy can last around two hours, while a general hypnotherapy session will usually take 50 to 60 minutes.

How much does hypnotherapy cost?

Session will cost £80 per hour and I offer a free discovery call to work out if we want to work together. If it's an ongoing treatment you're looking for, I can provide packages where you pay upfront for a certain number of sessions at a reduced cost.

What training do you have?

I have a Practical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy as well as being a Smoking Cessation Specialist and a Weight Management Specialist.

NLP FAQs:

What is NLP?

NLP combines theories, models and techniques from a range of scientific fields to create accessible, understandable ‘tools’ which can be used by individuals, teams and organisations and applied in a variety of contexts to improve outcomes, support wellbeing and create change.

What is the basic premise of NLP?

NLP studies the internal processing of the mind and how that processing shapes external behaviour. A fundamental thesis of neuro-linguistic programming is that behaviour flows from internal state. If your inner state is joyful and expectant, you behave one way. If your inner state is anxious and uneasy, you behave differently.

Drawing on this principle, NLP then examines the mental processes we use to create specific internal states. By learning how to create more resourceful states (and to "short-circuit" unresourceful ones), we empower ourselves to behave more effectively and to generate greater options for responding to life. Thus, unlike schools of psychology that ask why we do things, neuro-linguistic programming is more interested in how we do them.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming used for?

NLP can be used for personal and business development. For personal development it’s used to clarify purpose and direction, improve relationships and overcome challenges, such as anxieties and phobias. In business it’s used to improve leadership, sales, communication and influence.

What NLP qualifications do you have?

I have both a Practitioner Certification and a Diploma in NLP from the highly respected, Skills 24 organisation.

Does NLP really work?

Yes, NLP is basically a modelling discipline, it’s an exploration of what has worked in a variety of different contexts, and it is exceptionally helpful in helping us achieve results.

Can NLP change my life?

Yes, you can use NLP to change your life. NLP can help you access the best states, beliefs and strategies to move towards and achieve whatever is important to you.

How can NLP help me?

NLP can help you by giving you approaches to get into the best emotional state for a particular task, and by giving you the most useful beliefs and most helpful strategies to achieve whatever you want.

How much does it cost?

We will have a free discovery call to work out if we want to work together and then after that, it will be £80 per hour.

Executive Coaching FAQs

Does it work?

Coaching produces significant change when the person being coached (client) is ready to begin a new order. When a client acknowledges their concerns and hopes, a path to goal-setting is created. With feedback, challenging assignments, and a supportive network, coaching moves insight into action, resulting in growth.

How is coaching different from mentoring?

Coaching differs from mentoring in three fundamental ways. Coaching is about the task of improvement, and mentoring is about the relationship mission. Coaches bring individual focus, and mentors bring a network focus. Finally, the work of a coach is short-term in relationship to the time orientation of a mentor.

When is a good time to get a coach?

Significant career transition points are excellent times to benefit from coaching. Every move into roles of increasing responsibility represents a turn in leadership. These transition moments are superb to benefit from an executive coach. Also, short-term coaching focused on specific issues can also be of great benefit. The client needs to have time for coaching; it cannot be something relegated to side work.

Is Executive Coaching like therapy or counselling?

No, coaching is not a form of therapy. The word "therapy" implies a need for healing. Coaching is not about healing. It’s about building on the present. While therapy spends a great deal of time delving into the past, coaching is heavily oriented toward the future. Starting with the "here and now," it looks at where you want to go and helps you pull together the resources to get there.

Who should get Executive Coaching?

Coaching is about change. So the short answer is, coaching is for people who are ready for change — whether a change in effectiveness, a change in their quality of life, or a change in direction for their organisation. Coaching is for those who are outcome-oriented and who are ready to accept full responsibility for effecting the outcomes they desire.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a coaching certificate from the highly respected 7Cs of Coaching organisation. I also have a Diploma in Executive coaching

How much does it cost?

We will have a free discovery call to work out if we want to work together and then after that, it will be £80 per hour.
